A concrete patio or driveway sealer should be applied after the freshly poured concrete has cured - typically 28 days after it is poured.
How long should you stay off a new concrete driveway?
After 7 - 10 days, you can drive on a new concrete driveway with passenger vehicles. Avoid driving near or across the edges of the driveway, though, since those areas are still curing and may be weaker.
How long before I can walk on my new concrete sidewalk or driveway?
You should wait at least 24 hours before walking on any new concrete surface. To protect your new investment, you can block off the area to prohibit anyone from walking or driving across it.
Do I need to spray new concrete with water?
One of the most common methods for curing concrete is “moist curing” by hosing your new concrete down frequently with water, about 5 to 10 times per day, for the first seven days. This allows the moisture in the concrete to evaporate slowly and can result in concrete that can be up to 50% stronger.
Do I need to cover my new concrete driveway or patio?
When moist curing isn’t an option, you can also cover the concrete area with a tarp to trap in the moisture and decrease the evaporation rate. You should wet the concrete area thoroughly before covering with 4mm thick polyethylene sheeting and repeat this prowess daily for 7 days.
